I notice that about 2/3 of these recruiters just lob their jobs postings towards any-old-where, and say only that they want personal help from some unspecified stranger (that would be me) in posting to "your site". I've conversed with some of them, and uniformly they really have no idea what they mean by "site" in this context; they figure you'll work hard to _figure out_ somewhere, as if figuring out where to put their posts is somehow _your_ problem. And they never, ever read documentation. These people are paid for _what_, again? (Jim feel free to post this on the SF-LUG page, if you wish. Well, for 2006-11-21 I don't have precise/specific topic (I'm guestimating Python or programming related, or something along those lines), so this is what I've drafted thus far. If we can get a topic/talk title (it can be something with a fair amount of "wiggle" room) and appropriate blurbs, I can make suitable changes on the description(s) and such (including further changing the web page). New wiki page: For Presenters / Speakers

Well, I/we had earlier mentioned potentially doing something like this. May still be at least a somewhat rough version, but put up the wiki page: http://www.balug.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=phpWiki&file=index&pagenam… It may not be very polished yet, and probably doesn't have all the information it ought to, but at least it consolidates the stuff that's otherwise scattered about a bunch of (archived) e-mails (many of which update earlier ones), and is at least a hair more organized than a straight dump of those various texts. I think we're *mostly* covered on that. I'm running behind on a few things, but intend to have those caught up quite shortly. Do we have any particular short and somewhat longer blurbs regarding the talk/presentation, and also anything like a very short mini-bio on our speaker? (I think we may have some of that among the e-mail exchanges and such ... I'll look over those again also). I intended to update the BALUG website a while ago, but haven't gotten to that, ... I should have that done before the sun comes up tomorrow. Also - announcement - I'll at least draft a version of that, aiming for draft completion before sun up tomorrow, and intending to send out the actual announcement late tomorrow evening/night. For the announcement I have - information about our meeting on 2006-11-21 and speaker and such, and mention of no meeting in Dec. Anything else to prepare to include for announcement? I think we'd also send a "reminder" announcement a few days before the meeting (e.g. 2006-11-16 or so). For informing speakers/presenters about presentation equipment/faclities, (e.g. video projection) etc., this covers things pretty well (particularly when also following the URLs that it also references): http://lists.balug.org/pipermail/balug-admin-balug.org/2006-August/000231.h… I like the wiki idea suggested earlier though, ... probably ought to create a wiki page and put the information there, ... that way it could be in one persistent place, and also get updated/tweaked as/when appropriate.

Speaker Coordination wiki page!

The idea(s) (Thanks Jim Stockford & others!) were too good not to implement, so: http://www.balug.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=phpWiki&file=index&pagenam… I populated it with relevant key information I had in much of my (semi-)recent e-mails and such ... mostly from when we/I started dealing with the "mad scramble" to come up with replacement speaker for this past August's meeting, ... certainly got a fair number of potential leads/suggestions following that. (Not sure I've gotten all those leads/suggestions "squeezed" out of my e-mail and onto that wiki page, but probably have at least most of them so far ... still going through some of the yet more recent e-mail). Let me/us know if you think there are ways we should change how it's organized or formatted on the wiki page or whatever. I also generally listed folks as "Person(s) leading or to contact about" for who would (at least presumably) be the lead contact for varous speakers/presenters/groups - do feel free to change that as may be appropriate (heck, that really does apply to that whole web page, after all - at least as we're at least approximately in agreement on how the stuff should be changed and updated). And if you forget where that wiki page is: http://www.balug.org/ --> Wiki --> Speaker Coordination One likely has to login to edit the wiki pages. October speaker update

So I got in touch with Pat McGovern of Splunk re: the upcoming meeting. As it turns out, no one had been in touch with him, so he wasn't confirmed in the least. So... if it's ok, I can probably convince him to give a talk. The other options would be... 1. Rick M., as mentioned previously 2. Doug MacEachern, mod_perl creator, CTO of Hyperic 3. I could probably get one of Larry Augustin, any of the SugarCRM guys, or one of the 6 Apart guys (who are working on some interesting projects) Let the discussion commence. Do any of you know who originally suggested Pat McGovern? It turns out that he was scheduled to speak in August, but he was given the wrong date, so my vote would be to get him confirmed if possible, since he was kind of given the runaround last time - at least, according to him. -JM
